"And I Love Her" (LP)
© 1975 Roger That Jr.

The years 1974-1977 were an extraordinary time in the life of Roger That (Junior). After the realization of the fact that the relationship between him and his long time crush Amanda Newshields (b. 1948 in Wales) could never be anything more than a platonic one he fell into deep despair and wanted to make big changes in his life. In January 1975 he left his home, dogs and friends in London and moved to California to find new inspiration in his life and music.

In California Roger That Jr. lived in an one room apartment in the same building with a computer store called "The Byte Shop". Roger and the shop owner, Paul Terrell, became good friends and through him he also met two guys who were passionately designing a computer. Roger That Jr. who had already made numerous electronic music pieces was stunned about the possibilities this new computer was said to offer.

The computer designers (who he called "the two Steves") consulted Roger That Jr. frequently about the sound hardware design of the computer. After the disappointments in his personal life Roger fell deeply into the world of circuits and resistors and finally found himself thinking about the computer all the time.

In Autumn of 1975 he finally got to test the computer's sound hardware in practice and with the recordings of those sessions and with many other electronic experiments he composed a six track album called "And I Love Her". It is surely one of the most beautiful and innovative albums dedicated to the love between a man and electronics of all time. This is what true love is all about.
